The Research Fellow Programme is open to nationals of the following
states: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland,
France, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the
Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden,
Switzerland, and the UK, or Canada as a Cooperating State, Bulgaria,
Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia as European Cooperating
States (ECS).
Within the context of the work of the ESA Climate Office, the selected
candidate could choose to be involved in various activities depending on
their previous research experience. In order of preference, the suggested
topics for potential research fellows are:
Participating in activities related to the use of Essential Climate
Variable products such as climate research, geophysical data analysis,
data validation/intercomparison, data visualisation or data assimilation.Developing activities common to a subset of climate projects in an area
such as data management (archiving, pre-processing, post-processing),
processing or climate domains (Atmospheric, Land and Ocean) and their
interfaces.Working with one of the various Climate Change Initiative projects,
either those directly managed by the ESA Climate Office (Aerosol_cci,
Cloud_cci, Sea_Ice_cci, Soil_Moisture_cci, Fire_cci and Glaciers_cci) as
well as others within the CCI portfolio. Websites for these projects are
linked from the main CCI website http://cci.esa.intWorking to support cross cutting activities such as data harmonisation,
data consistency assessment, uncertainty characterisation, climate
applications and climate research.
We encourage a wide range of proposals and can be reasonably flexible in
what subjects can be covered. Preference will be given to applications
submitted by candidates within three years of receiving their PhD.
